More women crochet then men, which is obvious. The question is, how come?
Crocheting is a needlework technique which is performed using a hook and thread. The act of crocheting is very similar to knitting except while knitting, you use two needles and while crocheting, you only use one needle or hook. Crocheting can be used for making small stuffed animals, and or decorative pieces for your home. It is already sounding like something women would do more often then men, but why is this? Men usually aren’t seen spending their free time crocheting or even knitting, and this could lead to a problem. If women are the only ones that are taking time out of their day to spice up their home a bit, then what are men going to do without them? Men should also learn how to crochet so they would be able to help out their female partner.
Since crocheting is associated with mainly cutsey and or lacey items, it is not very likely to attract many men. The stereotype saying men don’t crochet and knit is not true because there are some guys out there who do really enjoy it. The majority of men prefer to engage in something that shows off their masculinity, rather then something as “feminine” as crocheting. All the men out there should not feel embarrassed to be crocheting because it’s supposedly a female dominated activity.
All in all, even if something like crocheting is female dominated, men should try it out too because they may end up enjoying it as well. The one main reason why guys aren’t showing off their skills in things like these is because they feel obligated to stick to hobbies like mowing the lawn or doing any other type of yardwork. Crocheting has many positive effects like putting your fingers to work, and may help with mental illnesses like depression or anxiety. So to all you guys out there, pick up that hook and make something amazing!
