Everyone may think that In California, Palm Trees line the roads and everyone is hanging out at the beach. Well, unfortunately, that’s all wrong.
Not everyone who lives in California is a beach bum or has met someone famous in Hollywood. This type of lifestyle only takes up about one fourth of the entire population of the state. Yes, there are many sunny beaches and you do have a chance of meeting someone famous in L.A., but there are also many different parts of California that people may not know about. In Northern California, there lies majestic mountains like Mount Whitney in the Sierra Nevada or Mount Shasta in the Cascade Range.
Most of the money lies in Southern California since that’s where many moviestars live. The Sky Scrapers in Southern California are a little bit taller and the air a little bit filthier. Another typical stereotype of California is that the traffic is horrible. This particular stereotype is actually true, since if you don’t get up early enough to go to work then you can be sitting in a traffic jam for four hours. If you are ever planning to visit one of the major cities in California like San Francisco, Los Angeles, or even Sacramento, then downloading an app that tells you where traffic is would be best.
A third stereotype of California is that everyone is always eating Mexican food. San Diego does contain many authentic Mexican restaurants and many are also spread out across the state, but this is not all Californians eat. The typical cuisine of California includes fresh produce, sea food and wine. More then Twenty-five million acres of California is farmland. This explains how nearly half of the nation’s vegetables and nuts are grown there.
So, many of the stereotypes are true, but equally many are false. There is so much more to the state then beaches, surfing and getting the chance to meet a famous star. The world famous Coachella ( which is an anual music and art festival) is also held in California. Just remember, if you do plan to travel to California anytime soon, remember to check for the local traffic in the area and don’t forget to stop by Malibu and check out the El Matador State Beach.
